Our Beloved Dentist Dr. Janice Had a Blast at the 40 Under 40 Event

Last May, we celebrated as two of our beloved dentists were named among the top 40 Under 40 Dentists by Incisal Edge, Belco Dental’s magazine for the celebration of the life and lifestyle of dental professionals across the nation. Our very own Drs. Justene and Janice Doan both got places in the top 40 list that recognizes the achievements and contributions of young dentists to the industry. Such is a recognition that the doctors, and we here at A+ Family Dentistry, feel honored about.
Benco Dental held an event during the last week of May to celebrate with other dental professionals who got places in the list. It was held at the Current at Chelsea Piers—regarded by many as Manhattan’s most elegant waterfront venues. Drs. Janice and Justene were both excited for the event, however, only Dr. Janice was able to attend since Dr. Justene decided to stay with the rest of the team at the office to take care of patients. Dr. Janice would have stayed as well but a dentist from our practice had

The Tooth Fairy and Other Dental Myths that a Trusted Dentist can Bust

Surely you’ve stopped believing in the existence of flying spirits that exchange lost molars for pennies (though your kids may be another story). Other than the Tooth Fairy, however, there are other misconceptions about dental care that some parents still believe to be true. For instance: did you know that giving your kids aspirin for their toothache is a bad idea because it could burn their gums? You can ask your dentist about this and similar myths and he’ll be very glad to straighten things out for you, starting with:

Fruit Juices Won’t Hurt their Teeth

There’s nothing wrong with impressing the importance of a healthy diet upon your child early on, but make sure to watch their consumption of fruit juices. Like drinking sodas or eating candies, excessive fruit juice consumption could put them at greater risk of tooth decay since these contain sugar, which is the largest culprit behind tooth decay.

What You Should Do After Whitening, According to a San Diego Dentist

Everyone wants to keep their pearly whites white but eventually, normal wear and tear will get the best of your teeth. The easiest way to restore your teeth to their former glory is to visit a cosmetic dentist for a teeth whitening session. However, if you want to get the most out of your investment, you need to follow through with proper care for your newly whitened teeth. Here’s how you can maintain that lovely new shine.
Observe Oral Hygiene
Fresh out of the whitening procedure, the best thing you can do for your teeth is to observe proper oral hygiene. Daily brushing after every meal and flossing at least once a day can protect your teeth from discoloration. Use a toothpaste that has whitening properties, cavity protection, and plaque control for best results. Drink plenty of water as well to wash down food residue on the surface of your teeth.

Dentist in Poway, CA: Common Oral Problems Preventable with Checkups

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that dental checkups should be done at least twice a year. This is an effective form of illness prevention as it keeps your mouth clean and healthy. Unfortunately, most people only get to visit dentists once a problem is already there.

Being able to visit your dentist regularly is a habit that begins at home, particularly for young children. As the child becomes familiar with the practice, checkups will become part of their daily routine until they reach adulthood. This good oral habit will be easier to develop among children with a family dentist who will accommodate the needs of families. After all, young ones tend to achieve activities better with a model person to follow.
